I was recommended by my 5 Star Hotel (Edition Barcelona) to come to this establishment my first day in Barcelona.

The hostess, “doorman” and African man at the door turned me away because of the dress code (I was wearing a one piece jumpsuit). I posted pictures of my attire that evening below. So draw your own conclusions.

I didn’t take it personally. Because every business has a right to have a policy. I just went to La Gavina next door and had a wonderful dinner.

My last night in Barcelona, I went to have a drink at the bar. I was turned away this time for a “private event” at the bar and because the kitchen was closed (they close at midnight, I arrived at 10:40pm). Which I knew was a lie. They just wanted an excuse to turn me away. This is clearly a xenophobic and racist establishment.

It appears they do not want American tourists in here based on their other reviews. Edition Barcelona confirmed with me upon checkout that they even have a dress code. So realistically, if you’re an American of any race (especially Black American) you should stay away. A steakhouse shouldn’t operate like some exclusive club in Miami lol. These people are just delusional. We have the best restaurants in the world in my neck of the woods (DC/Maryland).

I confronted them about their behavior and they cowered in my presence as expected. Because when people act inappropriately, they rarely have the nerve to back it up.

Your review refers to events that took place approximately one month ago. At that time, we already contacted you privately to listen to your concerns and respond to your comments, and we also replied publicly to your review.

As we explained then, we are genuinely sorry that this was your perception of what happened. However, we must firmly reject the accusation that our restaurant is xenophobic or racist. These are very serious allegations that are completely contrary to our values and the way we operate.

Every day we welcome and serve guests from all over the world with the same respect and professionalism. Likewise, our own team is made up of professionals from many different nationalities and backgrounds, something we are truly proud of. Any decisions regarding admission to the restaurant are based solely on our house policies and the circumstances at the time, never on a guest's nationality, ethnicity, or race.

We regret that, despite the explanations we already provided, you continue to hold this view. Nevertheless, we wish you all the best and thank you for sharing your feedback.
